Dr. Man-Ching Donald Yu (b.1980) is an active and prolific Hong Kong composer. He has composed over hundred works in many genres ranging from instrumental solo, vocal, chamber works, chamber opera, and film music to concerti, orchestral and choral works. Most of the pieces have been frequently performed around the world. Regarding Yu's musical styles, his works are characterized by the intermingling of the lyrical language of atonality and Chinese color. Yu received international acclaim with the premieres of his First Symphony performed by the Lugansk Academic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra at the leading venue Lugansk Philharmonic Hall as well as his Apocalypse for orchestra performed by the Chernivtsi Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra at the Chernivsti Philharmonic Hall in Ukraine in 2010. Yu was one of the few Chinese composers whose works were premiered by the orchestras.
