“Hallelujah Chorus”: December 12, 2011
Our new Noteworthy video – just in time for the Holidays, and accompanying our new Christmas 2011 Celebration – features an adorable visual rendering of the famed “Hallelujah Chorus” (from George Frideric Handel’s Messiah oratorio), compliments of the citizens of the small Yupiq Eskimo village of Quinhagak, Alaska. The video primarily features the 5th Grade students of the Kuinerrarmiut Elitnaurviat School, and was initially intended as a fun computer project to share with those in this and other nearby Yupiq villages. The students, teachers, and a few dozen local citizens worked hard over a weekend, and were naturally proud of their light-hearted flashcard accompaniment to a recording of this Christmastide classic; they have since been stunned, however, to find that their Youtube-posted video had become a true sensation – now with over 1.1 million views! With a snow-covered backdrop to many of the scenes, this makes a great and heart-warming addition to the Christmas festivities. Share your thoughts, and feel free to recommend other Xmas-related videos!
