Sergey Rachmaninov – whose 138th birthday we celebrate on April 1 – is among the most beloved composers by audiences and performers alike, as well as a master pianist who helped raise the technical possibilities of the instrument. A rather conservative voice in an era of tremendous change and innovation – including by his fellow Russian composers Stravinsky and Prokofiev, Rachmaninov blended late-Romantic expression with a tremendous gift of melody to write some of the most well-known themes and works in all of classical music. This concert contains a sampling of his piano, orchestral, concerto, chamber, and vocal works performed by our gifted roster of independent artists. Enjoy!
